Women’s basketball: Cabo Verde wins Guinea-Conakry and qualifies for Afrobasket’2021

The women’s senior basketball team of Cabo Verde qualified this Sunday for Afrobasket 2021, beating Guinea-Conakry in Conakry, 68-59, in the second leg of the qualifying round for the biggest showcase in continental basketball.

With this triumph, the Creole team, guided by coach António “Zola” Moreira, not only nullified the disadvantage of a point brought from the first round game, also held in Conakry, Saturday, in which the team lost to the locals 65-64, but overcame the opponent’s class to qualify.

With this victory, Cabo Verde guarantees the qualification of the Women’s Senior AfroBasket 2021 Zone 2, competition that, according to Fiba-Africa, takes place next September in Cameroon.

Cabo Verde thus qualifies for the second consecutive time for Afrobasket.

Jade Leitão, Indira Évora, Analeesia Fernandes, Joseana Vaz, Arlia Almeida, Monalisa Mendes, Allexia Barros, Juvelina Bento, Yasmine Santos, Aylin Pires, Ornela Livramento and Maria “Tchunas” Correia were the selected athletes who registered their names in this achievement in Guinea-Conakry.
