Ouagadougou: The city of the rider hosted this Tuesday the launch of the 2nd edition of the voluntary sweep operation, an initiative that promotes civic-mindedness and patriotism through environmental protection actions. Led by the Public Interest Group – National Volunteer Program in Burkina Faso (GIP-PNVB), in partnership with the National Office of Major Projects of Burkina (BN-GPB), this operation mobilizes 2,050 national volunteers and all the vital forces of 8 regions namely Nando, Bankui, Nazinon, Nakambe, Oubri, Kadiogo, Kuilse and Gulmou.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the special municipal delegation of Koudougou, Amedee Pare, underlined the relevance of this initiative in the face of environmental and health challenges, such as pollution, loss of biodiversity and the spread of diseases. “Faced with these realities, civic engagement and the mobilization of volunteers appear to be a concrete and effective response,” he said.
The PNV coordinator appealed to the population to support these efforts, emphasizing that development begins in front of homes, in neighborhoods, and in villages. He praised the commitment of the partners, highlighting a shared desire to build a united and supportive Burkina Faso.
This 2025 edition aims to be a powerful force for citizen mobilization, working towards a cleaner and more resilient country. September 2nd was dedicated to raising awareness about the values of volunteering, civic-mindedness, and environmental issues. On September 3rd, a tree planting at the CRS camp will precede a clean-up operation along the RN21, and on September 4th, Norbert Zongo University will host another planting and clean-up activity.
The launch ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates to volunteers and post-volunteers trained in entrepreneurship and job search.
