Union promises another strike by guards if the demands are not met (with audio)

The president of Sintsel, Manuel Barros, announced today, in Praia, that the guards will stage another strike, starting in July, a way to “continue the fight” so that their rights are respected.

The head of the National Union of Public and Private Security, Services, Agriculture, Commerce and Fisheries Agents (Sintsel), Manuel Barros, made this announcement to the press, on the sidelines of the 72-hour strike by the guards of the private security companies, explaining that the objective is to make the Government comply with its obligation, according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

“There is an agreement, signed and published, we cannot always keep the promises, because the guards have been waiting for four years”, he said.

In his opinion, the watchmen want to see in practice the new salary grid in force, and not to be frequently dragged and stipulated to new dates, stating that what has been done are meetings for negotiations.

“We don't want to participate in more side meetings just to hear excuses. They had promised the new grid for January 2020, it was not fulfilled, they promised that in May 2021 they would receive and nothing, therefore always apologies”, underlined Manuel Barros.

On the other hand, he accused the president of Siacsa (Union of General Industry, Food, Civil Construction and the like), Gilberto Lima, of playing the role of companies by "encouraging" the guards not to join the strike, considering that this attitude is reprehensible and it has nothing to do with unionism.

“The union members cannot confuse the role of unionism and politics, because the unions have to be with the workers”, stressed that union leader.

According to information provided by the official, the strike is nationwide and around 80 percent (%) of the guards joined.

Sintsel announced a three-day national strike starting today, materialized by the alleged non-compliance of the private security companies with the work agreement that was signed between the Government, unions and companies.
