The Union of Portuguese-Speaking Capital Cities (UCCLA) is preparing a tribute program to Amílcar Cabral in this year of the fiftieth anniversary of his assassination and in 2024, the centenary year of his birth.
The secretary general of UCCLA, Vitor Ramalho made the announcement, through an information note sent to Inforpress, who recalled that at the time, Amílcar Cabral, leader of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC) was killed in Conakry on January 20, 1973, and was born on September 12, 1924, in Bafatá, Guinea-Bissau.
“Given the fact that in the current year, 2023, for the fiftieth anniversary of the assassination and the year the centenary of his birth, UCCLA has in preparation a vast program of homage to Amílcar Cabral that will mark his multifaceted personality, in the professional fields, cultural and political, from the second half of the current year”, he stressed.
The secretary general of UCCLA considers that Amílcar Cabral is a “personality of transverse reference in all moments of liberation of the former Portuguese colonies and with worldwide prestige”.
