Ziniare: Around thirty children took part in a traditional initiation called Keoogo from September 3 to 13, 2025, in Ziniare. Organized at the initiative of Naaba Sanem, chief of Ziniare, this experience helped to instill in young people the fundamental values of Moaga society and Africa in general.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Keoogo is a cultural immersion that offers children practical and moral lessons to prepare them to face life. For ten days, the initiates discovered the rules of respect, solidarity, discipline, as well as knowledge linked to nature and community life.
“It’s a true school of socialization. We emphasized respect for elders, solidarity, and forgiveness. The atmosphere was so good that we would have liked to extend the experience,” says Kafando Jean Baptiste, one of the instructors.
For the children, the experience will remain etched in their memories. Brayan Simpore, one of the initiates, enthusiastically recounts: “We were taught to help each other as friends. What struck me was the part devoted to hunting and discovering the trees. I’m very happy to have participated.”
Traditionally, Keoogo lasts three months and ten days. But for this edition, the duration has been reduced to ten days to kick-start the process. “The main thing is to perpetuate this initiative and give the children guidance: discipline, respect for their elders, defending the weakest, but also knowing what is forbidden,” explains Naaba Sanem.
Through Keoogo, a whole section of Moaga culture is being reborn and passed on to new generations. It’s a reminder that Burkinabe society draws its strength from its traditions, values, and commitment to community life.
The chief of Ziniare also intends to open this practice to other communities of Bassitenga, in a dynamic of meeting and cultural exchanges during the next edition.
