Tokyo 2020/Judo: Sandrine Billiet wins first fight but is eliminated by France’s Clarisse Agbegnenou

The Cabo Verdean judoka Sandrine Billiet was eliminated on Monday in the -63 kg category, losing to France’s Clarisse Agbegnenou after beating Khojieva Farangiz from Uzbekistan in her debut at the Tokyo Olympics.

In the first round held at the Nippon Budokan Judo Mat, Sandrine Billiet won, according to the official website of the Olympic Games, by ippon (perfect blow) in a round that took one minute and 26 seconds.

In the second round, the Cabo Verdean athlete, who was fighting the silver medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, was immobilized by an ippon just 20 seconds into the fight.

So Sandrine Billiet says goodbye to the medal competition as she has to advance to the quarter-finals to be eligible for the bronze medal recap. Next Friday, 30th, it will be swimming’s turn, with Troy Pina competing in the 50-metre freestyle.
