Portugal’s ambassador to Cabo Verde, António Moniz, assured that his country will send, for sure, “a good tens and thousands of vaccines” against COVID-19 to the archipelago.

The diplomat made these statements to the press this Friday, at Praia international airport, during the reception of 24.000 doses of vaccines were donated by Portugal to Cabo Verde.

“I think what were in the authorities minds in Portugal was precisely the Cabo Verdean population and the gesture of solidarity. On the other hand, it is the culmination of the political commitment had been announced by our Prime Minister in Portugal and also from our Minister of Foreign Affairs that Portugal would allocate 5% of the vaccines it would receive to the Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP) and East Timor”, he stressed.

António Moniz said this is the first delivery, but Portugal’s commitment is to provide more vaccines, up to 5% promised. “There are certainly a good tens and thousands of vaccines,” he said.
