The suicide problematic in Cape Verde needs to be addressed much more than the issue of statistical data – coordinator

The suicide problematic in Cape Verde needs a different approach, much more than the issue of statistical data because lives are lost, defended this Wednesday, the coordinator of the National Mental Health Program, Aristides Luz.

Aristides Luz defended this position in statements to the press, on the sidelines of the Opening Ceremony of the National Workshop for the elaboration of a national strategy for the prevention of suicide, which runs from today 4th, in Praia.

As he explained, the aforementioned plan intends to encompass various sectors of society because, he justified, suicide is a public health problem, hence the need to encompass and prioritize short, medium and long-term strategies according to the country’s reality.

“One of the strategies is, for example, the issue of raising awareness of the issue of suicide, but also of the problem of mental health, which we know that, unfortunately, is still exist a lot of stigma in relation to this”, he pointed out.
