Dr. Muhammadu Bawumia, Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party will be the special guest at this year's Goeviwo festival durbar at Woadze in the Afadjato South district of the Volta region on Saturday, 10th August, 2024. Mr. John Dramani Mahama, Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congres is also expected to grace the occasion. The third Goeviwo festival is on the theme: 'development and unity through festivals'. Mr. Matthew Wormenor, Chairman of the organizing committee, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Woadze on Tuesday said the week-long festival began with a cleanup exercises in all Goeviwo communities last Monday. He mentioned other activities lined up for the festival as candlelight procession, traditional drumming football gala, borborbor night, cultural displays and oral history. Mr. Wormenor said the festival would be climaxed with a fundraising durbar on Saturday, 10th August, 2024 and a thanksgiving service on Sunday, 11th August. He intimated that Goeviwo were said to be descendants of one Togbe Goe who after their migration from Notsie in the Republic of Togo settled at separate locations in the Volta region. The Chairman said some of the Goeviwo communities are Adaklu Goefe, Adaklu Kodzobi, Goviefe, Woadze, Avee, Tsrukpe, Have and Kpele Goe in the Republic of Togo. He told the GNA that they used to celebrate a festival known as 'Norvisi za' but it collapsed in 1954 but said they deemed it fit to ressurect it and Christine it Goeviwo festival. He noted that the aim of the festival was to unite the communities and also raise funds for their development. 'Though we are separated by distance, we are still united,' he said. According to him, funds raised at the festival are given to the host community. Mr. Wormenor said the committee in collaboration with other stakeholders were working around the clock to bring other Goeviwo communities, both in Ghana and Togo to their fold.
