Scholarships awarded by the Government of Cape Verde, through the Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries, allow children, adolescents and young people, from families with less economic power, to attend art schools, in the most diverse areas, inside and outside their communities.

The Bolsa de Access to Culture program, launched in 2017, started with just 42 schools and around 1500 students. Five years later, the program is present in all the islands of Cape Verde, with 84 schools and 3500 scholarship students.

The Minister of Culture and Creative Industries, Abraão Vicente, who has been holding work meetings and visits to institutions under his authority in the city of Praia, was on the afternoon of Thursday, January 12, at two of these schools.

One in Alto da Glória and another in Monte Pensamento. Two peripheral neighborhoods of the country's capital where you can hear the chords and the sound of the students' flutes, always accompanied by a teacher.

The BA Cultura program is currently in the application phase, but students from the selected schools continue to attend them to hone their hands, warm up their voices and learn art.

At the end of the visit, the government official showed satisfaction with the growth of this program and knowing that the community has appropriated it, participating and letting the children participate actively in the classes. “The evaluation of the Bolsa de Acesso à Cultura program is very positive”, he began by saying. “We are going to have a budget increase in this year of 2023 from 22 thousand contos to 27 thousand contos”, he continued.

Schools remain extremely engaged in the program and, at this application stage, have complied with all procedures. “Many schools were born with the BA Cultura program”.

Applications for the BA Cultura program are aimed at schools, associations and cultural NGOs and will be open until January 31st.
