Koubri: The Minister of Security, Mahamadou SANA, along with key officials, conducted an unannounced raid at the Koubri checkpoint to ensure the strict enforcement of WAEMU Regulation 14, which regulates road traffic and came into effect on September 1. The goal of this operation was to personally observe compliance with the regulation.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the inspection involved ONASER technicians who measured truck dimensions to confirm adherence to standards. Of the vehicles inspected, one was found to exceed the permitted length, measuring 13.40 meters instead of the allowed 12 meters. The minister ordered the immediate immobilization of this truck until fines were paid and compliance achieved. Additionally, the inspection officers responsible for the route the truck traveled to Ouagadougou will face disciplinary action.
The announcement of these measures was met with applause from drivers and apprentices present, as they view the regulation as beneficial for improving road safety and cleaning up the sector.
The inspection continued to the Boudtenga toll booth on National Highway 4, where several trucks were checked and found to comply with Regulation 14. The operation lasted until 3:00 a.m., emphasizing the commitment to road safety.
At the conclusion of the mission, the Minister highlighted the dual objectives of protecting the road network and ensuring the safety of truck drivers, who are frequently involved in serious accidents. The Ministry reiterated its commitment to enforcing road safety regulations and maintaining strict discipline on Burkina Faso’s roads. Minister SANA expressed gratitude to the control agents for their rigorous and professional work.
ONASER reported that 916 non-compliant trucks have been brought into compliance, along with vehicles from other UEMOA member countries, reflecting ongoing efforts to adapt to the new regulations.
