Sao Vicente: Minister for Family and Social Inclusion announces creation in the short term the Labour Authority

The Minister for Family and Social Inclusion said in Mindelo that the Government is working to create an independent Labour Authority with greater administrative, financial, technical and human autonomy.

Fernando Elísio Freire made this announcement Monday while presiding over the opening of the workshop on “How can companies in the fish processing and processing industry contribute to the realization of decent work”, in the conference room of the Barlavento Chamber of Commerce.

According to the Minister, this authority, which will be created in the short term, aims to strengthen inspection skills, the efficiency and effectiveness of monitoring compliance with standards, respect for workers’ rights and promotion of safe working environments and fair and dignified working conditions.

According to Fernando Elísio Freire, the processing of fish is well developed and represents about seven percent (%) of gross domestic product (GDP) and 80% of exports. On the other hand, the country provides about 10.000 jobs and national jobs, making it a strategic sector for the Government, the Minister told.
