The mayor of São Vicente, Augusto Neves, urged on Tuesday, in Mindelo, a “coherent foreign policy” capable of having a spirit of network contact between the various communities of the diaspora.
The mayor made the appeal during the conference of the National Day of Culture and Communities, celebrated today, October 18, with the epicenter in São Vicente.
Augusto Neves recalled that Cape Verde is “essentially a country of emigrants”, and with “significant Cape Verdean communities” spread all over the world, for example in Europe and America, and which “prove to be a true asset for Cape Verde” and in the establishment of deeper ties with the receiving countries”.
Therefore, according to the same source, it is necessary for the Cape Verdean State to be able to maintain a “coherent foreign policy” and to have a spirit of networking between the various communities of the diaspora.
The defense and promotion of cultural identity must be carried out, he said, through a foreign policy “focused on achieving consensual objectives in terms of national interest”.
