Sao Tome/Elections: Voting process in Praia is taking place in the “normality” – Secretary

The voting process for the legislative elections of Sao Tome and Principe in the city of Praia is taking place in “normality”, assured Inforpress the secretary of the Diaspora Electoral Commission in Cabo Verde, Hildeberto Pereira.

 

According to progress, the polling stations for the legislative elections opened at 6:00AM Cabo Verde, local time (07:00 in São Tomé and Príncipe) and the process has been normal.

 

“In the morning the voter participation has been a little low and a majority of Sao Tome chose to exercise their right to vote in the afternoon,” said the official who said that of the 481 registered voters in Cabo Verde, 340 are in the City of Praia.

 

More than 120.000 voters, including the Diaspora, are registered to vote in these elections, to which 11 parties and movements, including a coalition, are competing to elect the 55 MPs to the National Assembly of Sao Tome and Principe.

 

Sao Tome voters also have to choose the next presidents of local authorities and the Prince’s Regional Government is also going to vote.
