Farmers in the agricultural perimeter of Chã das Furnas in Estância de Brás, in the municipality of Ribeira Brava, São Nicolau, are “worried” about the lack of water, due to the failure of the pump in the hole that supplies the perimeter.
In an interview with Inforpress, Victor Evangelista, president of the local community association, said that about a year ago, the borehole that supplied local farmers suffered a malfunction and since then farmers have been suffering from a lack of water.
“More than a year ago, the pump broke down and at the time, in an attempt to remove the pump for the concert, it fell into the hole. Since then no one has come forward to try to find a solution to resolve this issue,” he stated.
According to him, farmers have been supplied with water that comes from Fajã, however in an “insufficient and irregular quantity”.
