Santiago Tourism Association points to the pandemic crisis and the war in Ukraine as a “disturbing effect” on the sector

The president of the Tourism Association of Santiago (ATS) pointed out this Tuesday, the pandemic crisis and the war in Ukraine as a “disturbing effect” on the tourism sector in Cape Verde, especially on islands where the tourist destination is not consolidated.

Eugénio Inocêncio made these considerations in statements to Inforpress, stressing that this effect caused by these two crises will have “more impact” on the islands with fewer tourist destinations in relation to the islands of Sal and Boavista, which, according to him, have a level of destination tourism “differentiated from others”.

“With this war, inflation is having a very perverse negative effect on the cost of production in hotels, where it has risen significantly. Before, certain companies in this sector were waiting to build a hotel and restaurants, and suddenly with the increase in the cost of everything, it became a serious problem to move forward”, commented the businessman.

In addition, the president of ATS also pointed out another challenge in this sector in relation to the rise in inflation, the increase in prices of products consumed by tourists in hotels and restaurants.
