Legendary goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, has announced his retirement from the German national team after 15 years with 124 appearances. The 38-year-old who currently plays for Bayern Munich where he has been since 2011, said it was a difficult decision to take. 'Anyone who knows me, understands I didn't make this decision lightly' he said. 'I feel great physically and of course, the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico was very tempting.' The former Schalke O4 keeper said he held 'detailed' and 'lengthy' discussions with his family before taking the decision. 'I have decided that now is the right time to close the chapter […].' Neuer served as captain of the German national team for 7 years, and during his time with the Die Mannschaft, he had several achievements, including winning the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The 2020 Best FIFA goalkeeper has thanked the staff, coaches, and players of the national team for their support since his debut in June 2009. Source: Cameroon News Agency
