Prime Minister advocates strengthening the democratic and civic participation culture

The Prime Minister on Saturday defended the strengthening of the democratic and civic participation culture, imbued with tolerance for difference, religious preferences and philosophies of people’s lives and respect for the freedoms, rights, obligations and responsibilities of each one.

“Thirty years ago, on September 25, 1992, the first Constitution of the democratic and liberal Republic was adopted in Cabo Verde, which place the country in a new era. It was freedoms, respect for human dignity constitutionally guaranteed and protected”, clarified Ulisses Correia e Silva, presiding over the “open conversation” between the former President of the Republic and young students.

The Head of Government specified, in this celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic, that independence “gave us sovereignty, on January 13, 1991, freedom, democracy, and the Constitution of the Republic of 1992 the guarantee and protection of living in a free and democratic society with protected political, social and economic rights”.

Considering that the 1992 Constitution allowed the break with the economic regime and political system in force until 1990, the head of the Government stressed that celebrating the ephemeris allows young people to have a sense of the remarkable knowledge of what has changed and what exists today, in order to value the gains, especially with one of the protagonists of the Constitution of the Republic of 1992.
