Praia Basketball League kicks off Saturday with a former NBA star in the delegation

The Praia Basketball League kicks off next Saturday at the Vává Duarte sports complex with the six local teams in the competition, involving 15 American players, including the NBA’s Carlos Boozer, and an Egyptian to compete this summer.

In a press conference held on Wednesday afternoon in the sports complex for the presentation of this project, the president of the Professional Basketball League of Cabo Verde, the Praia League, António de Pina, the mentor of this initiative, described this action as a way to help tourism, boost the Cabo Verdean economy and a means of leaving the islands for the younger ones.

António de Pina revealed that American basketball player Carlos Boozer, who won the gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing by the U.S. and a bronze medallist at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and currently playing for Guangdong Southern Tigers, will attend the games because he is “very interested in investing in this championship in Cabo Verde.”

Naturalized American German winger Carlos Boozer, 40, 2.06 meters and 117 kilograms, was a professional basketball player at the highest level, having represented in the NBA teams such as Cleveland Cavaliers, Utah Jazz, Chicago Bulls, LA Lakers and Guangdong Southern Tigers with an accumulation of 944 games and an average of 16.31 points per game.
