PR participates in the Summit of Heads of State of the African Union in Addis Ababa

The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, participates, from February 18 to 19, in the XXXVI Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union, taking place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

According to a press release from the Presidency, at this meeting, which brings together the organization’s summit, some topics of interest to Cape Verde will be addressed, such as food security, climate change and energy policy in Africa and the African Continental Free Trade Area.

“Within this framework, the various reports on the strategic points of the session will be appreciated, with emphasis on the report on the institutional reform of the AU. The report of the Peace and Security Council on the implementation of the main road map of practical measures to silence guns in Africa and on political, financial and global energy policy governance, in addition to the report on the world food crisis”, says the press release.

The same source adds that, on the sidelines of this Summit, the Head of State will participate in an Extraordinary Conference of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS. Whose main objective will be to discuss the processes of political transition in Guinea-Conakry, Mali and in Burkina Faso, countries that were suspended from the organization after the military coups in 2020, 2021 and 2022, which will take place on 18 of the current month.
