Porto Novo: Curraletes music festival returns in August after two years away

The thirty-third edition of the Curraletes beach festival, on the outskirts of the city of Porto Novo, Santo Antão, takes place on August 26 and 27, marking the 63rd anniversary of this municipality in Santo Antao.

The announcement was made today by the festival’s organization, in charge of the City Hall of Porto Novo, which, although it has not yet announced the program, has assured that this show will have the presence of “great musicians and Cabo Verdean bands, resident in the country and abroad”.

This year’s edition of the festival, one of the oldest in the archipelago, marks the Municipality Day of Porto Novo, which is celebrated on September 2nd, a date which coincides with the 60th anniversary of the creation of this municipality. The resumption of the festival takes place in the year in which it is expected to start an investment of 30 million escudos on the Curraletes beach, located three kilometers from the city of Porto Novo, which will be transformed into a seaside resort.

This project is part of the operational plan of tourism 2022-26, in which the Government has already ensured, from this year 2022, an investment of 30 million escudos in the transformation of Curraletes beach into a seaside resort, with a view to promoting sun and beach tourism in this municipality.
