PM calls for combating sexual abuse and violence and deconstructs the narrative that the phenomenon is a “structural problem” in Cape Verde

The Prime Minister deconstructed the narrative that sexual abuse and violence is a “structural problem” and considered it to be an “undesirable and socially repudiated phenomenon, fought police and judicially and punished in its consequences”.

Ulisses Correia e Silva defended this position at the close of the “Political Dialogue on the abuse and sexual exploitation of minors and women in Cape Verde”, at the National Assembly, where he said it was important to convey this message.

For the head of government, society itself often feels impotent to fight against these phenomena, because this practice has been passed down from generation to generation.

Contrary to the idea that “this does not have a solution”, the Prime Minister said that it is not a “tradition or something immutable”, which is why he understands that “it should be seen as something that should not be naturalized or normalized”.
