Ouagadougou: The Association of Schoolchildren and Students from Passore (ASERP) has embarked on a significant reforestation project in Yako, planting more than 100 plant species. The initiative took place on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, as part of the 6th edition of ASERP’s ordinary congress, which runs from September 2 to 5, 2025, in Yako.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the tree-planting operation was organized under the leadership of ASERP’s president, Madi Sankara, with the aim of enhancing the greenery of the royal court of His Majesty Naba-Djiguemde of Yako. Schoolchildren and students from Passore province gathered at the royal court to carry out the planting, contributing to a greener environment for the local traditions’ custodian.
The congress program included various activities, such as a blood donation drive, a fundraising event for internally displaced persons, and a panel discussion on “Security challenge and quest for sovereignty, contribution of committed Passorian youth.” These events drew participants and supporters from across the country.
His Majesty, Naaba Guiguemde of Yako, expressed his satisfaction with the efforts of the Passore schoolchildren and students. He urged ASERP members to demonstrate responsibility and solidarity to achieve lasting peace and requested local residents to support the association’s goals.
ASERP President Madi Sankara highlighted the objectives of the reforestation activity, emphasizing its alignment with the Head of State’s call to re-green Faso. He viewed it as an opportunity for young people to contribute to the progressive revolution led by President Ibrahim Traore. Sankara also encouraged his peers in Passore to engage more deeply in resilience efforts and ensure the protection of the newly planted trees.
Furthermore, the association’s leader assured the provincial director of Water and Forests of Passore of the measures taken to safeguard the plants, reinforcing ASERP’s commitment to environmental preservation.
