Parliament: PAICV expresses concern about the extinction of the National Commission on Human Rights and Citizenship

The African Independence Party of Cabo Verde (PAICV, opposition party) expressed on Thursday its concern about the extinction of the National Commission on Human Rights and Citizenship (CNDHC), asking the Government to further deeper into the matter.

PAICV’s position was declared by MP Démis Lobo, during the debate on the motion for a Resolution approving for the adoption of the Protocol on the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Establishment of an African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

According to the MP, the Government’s claim to extinguish the CNDHC and transfer its competence to the Ombudsman has caused concern, because the entity that will be responsible for these powers has questioned about its organisational and the resources made available.
