Ouagadougou: Association Launches Free Ophthalmological Consultation Campaign for Patients

Ouagadougou: A campaign of free eye consultations for the benefit of the populations of the Kadiogo region is being held from September 1 to 7 in Ouagadougou. Initiated by the Wend La Lafi association, it aims to bring eye health care closer to patients and prevent eye diseases such as cataracts and glaucoma.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the campaign, which started on September 1st at the Place de la Nation, offers consultations in the Kadiogo region until September 7, 2025. Patients are encouraged to attend to find solutions to their eye health issues. Dr. Ahmed Malick Koama, who spearheaded the initiative under the Wend La Lafi association, highlighted the campaign’s goal of making health care more accessible to the population.

Dr. Koama noted the challenges many individuals face in accessing health care, with some resorting to lining up in the early hours for eye care. The campaign aims to bridge this gap by bringing healthcare services closer to those in need.

Eye disorders such as cataracts and glaucoma are prevalent, and early detection is crucial for effective treatment, Dr. Koama emphasized. He pointed out the significant impact of eye health issues, particularly on the elderly, and recognized the need for timely screenings to prevent the progression of such conditions.

Dr. Koama praised the dedication of health personnel, including retirees and volunteers, who play a crucial role in the campaign’s success. He acknowledged support from various entities, including the Ministry of Health, the National Centre for the Fight against Blindness, and local authorities.

To further alleviate eye health issues, Dr. Koama called on Burkinabe economic operators to invest in supporting the elderly. He stressed the importance of national involvement to complement international aid in cataract operations and to support vulnerable populations.

Dr. Koama reassured the public of the quality and efficiency of the health services provided, urging them to trust health personnel and participate in the screenings.
