The State Budget for 2023 for the diplomacy sector is 1,480 million escudos, and contains solutions and perspectives for fulfilling the great options of Cape Verdean foreign policy.
The revelation was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration, Rui Figueiredo, during the parliamentary hearing, within the scope of the presentation and discussion in the specialty of the State Budget for 2023 (OE’2023), having advanced that this amount corresponds to an increase of 8.6% compared to 2022.
The official explained that the diplomatic missions’ own revenues financed almost all of the increase.
“The increase that occurred in the MNECIR budget was the possible increase, not translating into a larger budget. It’s ideal for the execution of some relevant actions such as the opening of new diplomatic missions and for the recruitment of more diplomats, to fill the deficit of 57 % in relation to the number of vacancies provided for in the Diplomatic Career Statute ”.
