Ocean Race/São Vicente: Prime Minister expresses a sense of “joy and gratitude” at the award ceremony

The prime minister admitted that it was with a feeling of “joy and gratitude” that he handed over the award for the first classified in the IMOCA class, Alicante/São Vicente stage, for all that the race meant for the country.

“Organizing this type of event is not easy, it is very demanding from a logistical point of view. It requires a high professional level and we managed it, with the support of the Ocean Race organization, but also with local and national support, from volunteers and artists”, declared Ulisses Correia e Silva, moments after the award ceremony for the first stage of the regatta.

Asked if the Ocean Race is here to stay, that is, if the regatta returns to Cape Verde in the future, the prime minister said that it was already “a great event” for the country to host the Ocean Race, and that there will be future editions.

“We will have time to decide, but now we have to savor what was in fact the great impact here for Mindelo and the notoriety that the regatta brings to Cape Verde and São Vicente in terms of water sports, the organizational capacity and the benefit that we are going to have to take it out in the near future”. Reinforced the head of the Government.
