North Santiago : PAICV calls for “structuring and courageous investments” to develop the fishing sector

The African Party for the Independence of Cabo Verde (PAICV, opposition) warned this Thursday that the fishing sector is not just about fibering vessels and asked the Government for “structuring and courageous investments” to develop the sector.

The observation was made by the spokesperson for the deputies elected on the PAICV lists, Armindo Freitas. He was speaking in Rincão, Santa Catarina, to the press after a two-day visit to the interior of Santiago, which included three of the four municipalities that have fishing as an activity (Santa Catarina, Santa Cruz and São Miguel), as part of the preparation of the debate with the Minister of the Sea, Abraão Vicente.

The visit aimed to listen to the concerns of fishermen, fishmongers, ship owners and businessmen, within the scope of the debate with the Minister of the Sea, scheduled for the first parliamentary session in February.

“We understand that in Santiago Norte the entire primary sector must be structured to transform this sector into a high-yield activity, which creates wealth and employs people here in Santiago Norte”, stated the national deputy.
