On August 30, 2024, friends, family, and fans gathered in Lagos to bid farewell to Nollywood veteran and music icon, Onyeka Onwenu. The beloved actress and singer, who passed away at the age of 72, was laid to rest amidst heartfelt tributes and sorrow. A service of songs was held at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos, where attendees paid their last respects. The ceremony was filled with reflections by colleagues and family on Onwenu's significant contributions to the entertainment industry and her lasting impact on Nigerian culture. Following the service, the burial took place at the Ebony Vaults in Ikoyi. The solemn event marked the final goodbye to a woman who had touched countless lives through her music, acting, and activism. Onwenu was confirmed dead on Tuesday, July 30, after collapsing at a birthday party. She had just performed for the celebrant, Mrs. Stella Okoli of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, and was returning to her seat when the tragic incident occurred.
