Nazinon: The High Commissioner of the Zoundweogo province, Julien Ouedraogo, launched the work of validating the results of the regional consultations intended to feed into the general states of land transport in Burkina Faso. This event took place in Manga, located in the Nazinon region.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting gathered several local stakeholders, including agents of decentralized structures, representatives of control and security forces, local authorities, hauliers and truck drivers, socio-professional organizations, driving school promoters, and license plate dealers. In his opening speech, the High Commissioner, representing the Governor of Nazinon, highlighted the central role of the transport subsector in the country’s economic and social development. He noted its importance in ensuring the mobility of people and goods and its role as an essential lever for national cohesion, territorial opening, and trade dynamism. However, the sector faces numerous challenges that are hindering its progress.
Nazinon Regional Mobility Director Issaka Yankene stated that participatory consultations held in August across the region’s three provinces revealed several issues, including a lack of professionalism, an outdated vehicle fleet, inadequate infrastructure, road safety concerns, and non-compliance with regulations. For the High Commissioner, these regional consultations initiated by the government offered an opportunity for comprehensive and inclusive discussions on the sector’s problems. Themes such as urban transport, road safety, the driving education and testing system, vehicle registration, technological innovations, and river transport were examined, leading to a better understanding of the situation and useful recommendations for the general assembly.
Mr. Ouedraogo emphasized that the workshop is a crucial step in this process, serving as a platform for consolidating the results of the regional consultations. The regional director of mobility expressed that, in the long term, the general assembly should help modernize and professionalize the transport sub-sector, benefiting both the Burkinabe people and the national economy.
