Accra: The National Sports College (NSC), together with the Institute of Fitness Ghana (IFG) have introduced three internationally certified fitness and nutrition courses. Under the supervision of the National Academy of Sports Medicine USA, the six months training seeks to equip individuals with knowledge and skills in nutrition, fitness and other areas. The newly introduced courses were Certificate in Personal Training, Certificate in Nutrition Coaching, and Certificate in Group Fitness Instruction. Mr. Evans Bobie Opoku, Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports (MoYS) speaking at the launch of the event said the impact of the newly introduced courses was in line with the ministry's mandate of empowering and promoting a healthy lifestyle. 'In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to neglect our physical and mental well-being. However, as a nation, we recognize the importance of investing in our health and fitness,' 'Our ministry is committed to creating opportunities for our youth to thrive, and this cour se is a testament to that commitment,' he said. The Deputy Minister said the courses would go a long way to provide participants with needed tools to develop healthy habits, build confidence, and cultivate positive self-image. He commended the organizers for their tireless effort in introducing the courses , which was channeled towards a positive impact on communities. Mr. Collins Kofi Eduafo, Technical Director, National Sports College said the institute was serving its mandate of training and retraining sports personalities in the area of Anatomy and Physiology, Exercise Science, Class Design and Planning and many others. He said the relationship between the National Sports College and the National Sports Authority had been healthy and yielded lots of positives in the past years. Madam Caterina Sestili, Director, Institute of Fitness Ghana expressed excitement following the launch of a new chapter to promote and develop sports in Ghana. She said the IFG was committed in establishing a new standar d of excellence in fitness and sports education. She showered praises on the Ministry of Youth and Sports for being a pillar in supporting educational programs that aligned with international standards. Mr. Majeed Bawa, Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority highlighted the need for federations to enroll members in such courses. At the end of the six months training, Certificate shall be awarded to participants by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) USA. The course is scheduled for 9th September,2024.
