Minister of Agriculture argues that valuing biodiversity involves sustainable tourism

The Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Gilberto Silva, considered this Wednesday, in Praia, that valuing biodiversity involves sustainable tourism.

The statement was made at the closing of the Project Integration of Biodiversity in Tourism in Synergy with the National System of Protected Areas (Project BIOTUR), implemented in Cape Verde since 2017 to integrate biodiversity conservation into national tourism planning and operations.

The official explained that the development of rural and ecological tourism also involves the integration of all nature conservation activities, as well as the sustainable exploitation of resources in the communities.

“That’s why I call for us to take this experience of the BIOTUR projects to the other islands and that we can integrate this approach in the programs and projects that we already have duly identified and integrated in the Strategic Plan for Sustainable Development”, he exhorted.
