Minister Carlos Monteiro satisfied with the success of the Maio Ocean Trail-2022

The Deputy Minister of the Prime Minister for Youth and Sports, Carlos Monteiro, expressed his satisfaction with the success of the II edition of the Maio Ocean Trail, an event that had the participation of around 100 athletes from Cape Verde and Portugal and which was lived with a lot of emotion and energy on Saturday, August 13, on the island of Maio.

The Deputy Minister of the Prime Minister for Youth and Sports, Carlos Monteiro, expressed his satisfaction with the success of the II edition of the Maio Ocean Trail, an event that had the participation of around 100 athletes from Cape Verde and Portugal and which was lived with a lot of emotion and energy on Saturday, August 13, on the island of Maio.

Speaking to the press, moments before proceeding with the delivery of the medals of the first classified in each modality, together with the Mayor of Maio, President of the Cape Verdean Athletics Federation, IDJ Administrator and sponsors of the event, Carlos Monteiro said that this initiative is to continue.

The initiative, integrated in the Cape Verde Trail Series, was considered a success by the participating athletes, who accepted the challenge of exploring the flat trails of the island, in the Long Trail (37.5 km), with route Calheta - Praia de Porto Inglês and Short Trail (19km), which started in Calheta and also ended in Praia do Porto Inglês, with 98 athletes participating in the races.

More than 100 hikers participated in the “Caminhada”, a non-competitive activity with a linear route of approximately 7km, starting in the village of Morro towards the city of Porto Inglês.

It should be noted that, in the morning of the activities, the beach of Bitxe Rotxa lived the KIDS TRAIL, which this year had the active participation of more than 150 children, who performed races, gymkhanas, traditional games and still had everything to wake up the good habit of physical exercise in the little ones.
