Minister of Justice Joana Rosa on Thursday admitted the need for some amendments to the Constitution, thinking about what happened during the Covid-19 pandemic in Cabo Verde, including declarations of a state of emergency.
Joana Rosa spoke to journalists following the day of reflection and debate held today, in the city of Praia, on the themes related to the Constitution and also in the context of the commemorations of the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Cabo Verde of 1992 and National Day of Human Rights.
“This topic will be under discussion in this forum that begins today. Tomorrow [Friday], we will talk about fundamental rights. We will have the Portuguese Minister of Justice who will share with us the Portuguese experience. So at this point we will celebrate the date and discuss the challenges we have and to see some changes to be done in the future”, she said.
The Minister stressed that over the 30 years there were several gains arising from the approval of the Constitution of the Republic, and there were some revisions being the first in 1995, then in 1999 and, lastly, in 2010.
