The President of the Monte Sossego Group, which became two-time champion of Carnival in São Vicente, considered that the Mindelo Carnival has taken another step towards its affirmation as a creative economy in the country.
António Duarte, who was speaking to journalists after receiving the title of champion of Carnival 2023, said that the expectation was of victory, because since the time of the presentation of the plot, the objective was to win, in addition to elevating the Carnival of Mindelo.
“Right now, we are working collectively, but we understand that commitment and individual performance contributed to the whole. It was our expectation to win more individual prizes, namely the couple master room and flag holder”, said António Duarte, who said that Carnival was also a moment of reaffirmation for its artists, noting that Monte Sossego held the parade thanks to the huge number of ateliers locations.
“They produced fantastic, beautiful costumes. We didn’t need to import absolutely anything from costumes because we have more than enough artistic capacity to be able to show the aesthetics and the plastic of what we presented yesterday at the Mindelo Carnival”, he added.
