MCIC presides over the opening ceremony of the “Maior Tereru di Batuku du Mundu” in Assomada

The Minister of Culture and Creative Industries, Abraão Vicente, presides today at the opening ceremony of the “Maior Tereru di Batuku du Mundu”, involving about 700 batucadeiras from the islands of Santiago and Maio in city of Asomada.

According to the press release, while valuing the secular cultural manifestation in Cape Verde and will feature 54 groups, in a universe of 654 members, including men, women and children, the event also aims to celebrate batuku.

The “Maior Tereru di Batuku du Mundu” will also feature two batuco circles, “Mudjeris na Batuco” and “Homis na Batuco” (Women and men in the batuco).

According to the same source, Santa Catarina, which is the host municipality of the event, enters this festival with 17 groups, corresponding to 211 elements, São Miguel participates with five groups (59 elements), Santa Cruz with nine associations (113), Maio island with four groups (56 batucadeiras), Ribeira Grande with five groups (59), Praia with two (30 elements.)
