Manyu Division prepares vigorously for National Day celebrations

The town of Mamfe, serving as the administrative hub of Manyu Division in the South West Region, is bustling with preparations for Cameroon’s National Unity Day on May 20th, 2024.

Despite lockdowns and ghost towns enforced by Separatist groups, Mamfe’s populace is resolute, exemplified by Saturday’s unity sport walk through the town, Administration said.

Leading this symbolic march was the Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for Manyu, Awounfac Alienou Yves Bertrand, emphasizing the significance of the unity day in fostering cohesion and solidarity among Manyu’s residents.

Acknowledging the challenges posed by separatist actions, both civilian and military entities in Manyu are committed to restoring peace. The SDO reassures the populace of the government’s unwavering dedication to stabilizing the North West/South West regions.

Highlighting the successful collaboration between civilians and security forces, the SDO mentioned the recent neutralization of some separatists , underscoring the
collective effort in maintaining security.

He furthered that despite recent attacks on law enforcement, security forces remain steadfast in their pursuit of non-state actors. Preparations for this year’s national day commenced on May 17th with military and civilian parade rehearsals at Mamfe’s ceremonial grounds.

This year’s celebrations occur amidst ongoing insecurity in certain areas of Manyu, highlighted by recent incidents in Eyumojock and Akwaya subdivisions. The Brigade Commanders of Eyomujock and Akwaya were killed within one week in Manyu division. At least six other servicemen died in the attacks.

The 52nd National Day will be commemorated under the theme ‘Army and Nation: Together for a United, Peaceful, and Prosperous Cameroon.’
