INE extends census due to difficulties on the ground

The National Institute of Statistics (INE) revealed that the 5th General Census of Population and Housing (RGPH-2021) will be extended for an additional week, due to the refusal and weak participation of people on the ground.

The announcement was made on Thursday by President Osvaldo Borges, late this morning, during a joint press conference with the National Data Protection Commission to clarify to the population on the issue of security and confidentiality of personal data provided during RGPH-2021.

He explained that the 5th General Census of Population and Housing (RGPH-2021) started on June 16 and was due to end on 30 of the same month, but due to problems the teams had on the ground, the deadline was extended to July 7.

“The first point has to do with the refusal, the second has to do with outstanding issues related to the time and availability of families to receive our agents and also the technical issue related to verification of the whole process is done before its completion”, he stressed.
