Importance of music in Cape Verdean culture and identity debated in Milan

Association Casa de Cabo Verde in Milano, Italy, in collaboration with Lulm University, holds a debate on the 28th on the importance of music in Cape Verdean culture and identity as part of the activities from “O mar molha Milão”.

The event, which will take place in the Brera district, in the room at via del Carmine 10, from 4 pm to 6 pm, will be an opportunity to premiere in Italy the film Manuel d’Novas – Coração de Poeta, (2019), dedicated to one of the “most important” composers of the archipelago, directed by Cape Verdean director Neu Lopes.

According to the organization, the agenda also includes the debate with anthropologists, scholars, enthusiasts, also connected from abroad on the relationship between music, identity processes and cultural transformations.

“At the end there will be live music with cavaquinho and playlists to make you dream and take you to the Sodade Islands, and Cape Verdean flavors with a chicken soup, typical dish of the parties”, reads in the document.
