The ceremony, presided over by the Deputy Prime Minister for Youth and Sports, Carlos Monteiro, was attended by the Mayor of Maio, Miguel da Rosa, and the Representative of the Joint Office of UNDP, UNFPA and UNICEF, Steven Bear.

This year, the United Nations defined as its motto “Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a world for all generations”, which invites greater dialogue and engagement of all age groups in the definition of policies and actions that promote local and global development. Thus, the event was also marked by the intergenerational conversation held on the shore of Bitch Rotcha beach, with various social actors from heterogeneous generations.

In his speech, the Minister left a special message of hope, resilience and daring to all young Cape Verdeans in the country and in the diaspora who dream, innovate and work together to overcome the challenges that these times impose on us, urging them to take advantage of the various existing opportunities, especially YouthConnekt Cabo Verde, whose mission is to connect young people to opportunities in Cabo Verde and in the world.

“We have been putting young people at the center of our attention in a very clear way in all areas of governance that deal with youth issues. We will continue to invest and create tools so that our youth can unlock their full creative potential and thus make their valuable contribution to the country's development”, underlined Carlos Monteiro.
