Government honors the “singular poet” Corsino Fortes for the seventh anniversary of his passing

The poet and writer Corsino Fortes was this afternoon honored by the Government, in a ceremony held in Jardim Jorge Barbosa, at the Ministry of Finance, as “illustrious figure of the Cabo Verdean economic and financial world”, seven years after his passing.

The author of the “Pão e Fonema” was described by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Olavo Correia, as the “Greatest Major”, and one of the great figures who simultaneously marked the economics, finance and culture world.

“There is only a future for a people who know how to value its history and its past. Valuing history and the past implies valuing the figures and actors of this same history. This only greatly enhances Cabo Verde,” said the Deputy Prime Minister, for whom Corsino Fortes represents a striking figure in economic history, but also Cabo Verdean cultural.

The poet of “Pão and Fonema” (1974), of “Árvore and Tombor” (1986) of “Pedras de Sol e Substância” (2001) was also described by Olavo Correia as the one who made a break with the “Claridade” and who together with two other great poets, Armenio Vieira and João Vário, printed a change and caused a break in the form and content of making poetry in this country.
