GBV is a “chronic” problem that can be overcome with the training of law enforcers – Bar Association

The president of the General Assembly of the Bar Association on Monday considered GBV as a “chronic” problem detected in several studies, and can be overcome with the training of law enforcers.

Júlio Martins, who spoke to the press on the sidelines of the training opening ceremony on the VBG Law for trainee lawyers who are attending the course that allows them to register in the Bar Association and the full exercise of the Law practice, considered it to be an investment to the lawyer so that they can increase the level of application of the GBV (Gender-Based Violence) law.

“Training on VBG is an ongoing effort that must continue to invest with lawyers, prosecutors and the Judiciary, because everyone in this joint effort is sure that we will be able to increase the level of law enforcement,” he said.

Asked how the VBG law can help lawyers know the reality of the country regarding gender-based violence, Júlio Martins explained that everything has to do with historical factors of Cabo Verdean society.

The GBV law, he said, is an instrument for putting things in order, so he considers that it cannot be admitted in the 20th century, the problem still persists both locally and in the Diaspora.
