Former cultural producer Samira Pereira is the motto of a film produced by Portuguese actress Flávia Gusmão

The life of the late cultural producer Samira Pereira from Mindelo was the motto for the film “#4 Mangifera” produced by Portuguese actress Flávia Gusmão and will premiere on October 16 on TV station RTP2.

“#4Mangifera”, according to the advisory information in a statement, is the fourth chapter of a multidisciplinary project “Na lut@” of art on loss and mourning created by Flávia Gusmão following the death of friend and well-known producer, manager and cultural activist Samira Pereira, who died in 2021.

This production, which is the first of the Portuguese actress and director, brings, according to the same source, an attempt to “build a fictional, geographical, emotional and affective map.

“The fiction, complexity and nuances of identity are constructed from imaginary maps of Cabo Verde and Cabo Verdean communities,” the statement reads.

In the film, through a process of creation developed with different Cabo Verdean communities from various countries, “there is an imagined parallel between the biography of Samira Pereira, born in 1976, a year after the independence of Cabo Verde, and the historical-political events that marked her circle of friends and co-conspirators, her legacy and cultural activity and the territories where she lived, influenced migration flows from departure and return.”
