Football / CHAN 2023: Cabo Verde seeks qualification against Sierra Leone after defeat (2-0) in first game

The national football team of Cabo Verde plays today at the Marrakech Stadium in Morocco, against the counterpart of Sierra Leone, in the second leg of the first qualifying round for the African Cup of Nations for Residents (CHAN) 2023.

In the first game, held in the same venue and as a visitor, Cabo Verde had lost 2-0, a compromising result for the aspirations of the “Blue Sharks”, the name for which the national football team is known.

However, the national squad, which in this match scheduled for 5:00PM, will enter the field as host, is obliged to cancel this disadvantage to get passage to the second round. Cabo Verde and Sierra Leone play in Morocco as the two countries have their stadiums banned by the African Football Confederation (CAF) to host international competitions.

According to the schedule, the winning national team of this round will go to the second round against Mali, a finalist beaten in the last CHAN in matches that give access to the African championship scheduled for January in Algeria. The final round CHAN will be held from January 8 to 31, 2023 in Algeria, and will have the participation of 18 national team, with Morocco defending the title.
