Fogo: Problems in the availability of sand is blocking the dynamics of civil construction – Nuías Silva

The mayor of São Filipe said Monday that Fogo is living a “worrying situation” with the unavailability of inert, namely sand, and it has blocked the dynamics of the economic development of the island.

Nuías Silva expressed this concern at a press conference in São Filipe, and called on the Government to find a solution to this situation, which he said is “stifling” the economic development of the island.

The mayor recalled that the Government, through licensing no. 002/2022 on dredging sand at sea, granted the JRL – Inertes of Cabo Verde company the prerogative of dredging the sand in four points of the island of Fogo with the coordinates duly defined by the Port Maritime Institute, justifying at the time the direct adjustment with the need to solve a very serious situation that was placed on the island and to provide inert at a fair cost.

Despite the process being “very contested” at the time, Nuías Silva said it was a battle imposed by the Government that chose the company and made the award, stressing that the company operated and brought a solution, having managed to solve the problem of inerts on the island.
