Fogo: PR says Cabo Verdean language unites country and Diaspora hence “every reason” for its full officialization

The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, argued, Wednesday, the 23rd, in São Filipe, that the Cabo Verdean language unites Cabo Verde and its Diaspora and there is “every reason for its full officialization”.

The Head of State, who participated on Wednesday night, the 23rd, in the Conference on “Cabo Verdean language: foundation for an integrated language policy”, at Casa da Memória, with Professor Amália Melo Lopes, said that the Presidency is “absolutely available” to support this dynamic for the officialization of the national language.

“I am absolutely available to support all academics and linguistics in this matter”, said José Maria Neves, indicating that they have already done their work and demonstrated that officialization is possible.

“Now is the time to work towards the full officialization of the Cabo Verdean language and the consensus is being outlined in this sense, based on all variants and in a very plural way, we have begun to give the Cabo Verdean language all its dimension and value it deserves,” he said.
