Fogo: City Hall launches Pedro Cardoso Award for works written in the island’s Creole

The City Hall of São Filipe will launch next year the first edition of the Pedro Cardoso Literary Award for works written in Creole from the island of Fogo, as a way to value it.

The announcement of the award was made by the Mayor of São Filipe, Nuías Silva, on the sidelines of the gala for recognition of the personalities who contributed to the development of culture, held on Monday night, the 1st, in the Presidio Square, which after more than two years returned to be the scene of cultural activities.

“Next year we should launch the Pedro Cardoso Literary Award, to value the writing of poetic works, essayists and fiction in the Creole language from the island of Fogo”, said Nuías Silva, stressing that valuing the culture and identity of the island of Fogo, “which is rich”, intends to develop the municipality of São Filipe, recognizing that this will only be possible if you bet on its culture.

With regard to this first edition of the gala, which, according to him will continue every year to recognize men and women of culture for their work, but also to build identity and a tourist product can be made available to visitors.
