ERIS closes 25 food establishments in the country for non-compliance with the health safety standards

The on-site inspections carried out by the Independent Health Regulatory Authority (ERIS) in 2022 closed 25 food establishments nationwide for non-compliance with health safety standards and conditions, Inforpress found out this Thursday.

This information was forwarded to Inforpress by the executive administrator of ERIS, who is responsible for the food safety portfolio, Patricia Alfama, on the sidelines of the 1st Seminar Regulatory Dialogues – the theme: “Regulation at the service of food health security” promoted this Thursday by ERIS.

The event aimed to strengthen knowledge of food legislation, to present the annual results of inspection activities and to promote a dialogue with food businesses representatives, she said.

As she explained, the food sanitary regulation in Cabo Verde has been made since 2014 in food establishments in all municipalities of the country, to verify that food establishments provide safe food to the population and have a healthy business environment in the sector.

According to ERIS’ food safety officer, from 2017 to 2022 2.299 on-site inspections in food establishments were carried out nationwide, of which 139 correspond to 2022 and 25 establishments were closed.
