Don’t be scared to perform on political platforms – Nero X tells musicians

Accra: Ghanaian singer, Joseph Nkrumah Buabeng, also known as Nero X, has encouraged musicians to perform on political platforms if they are satisfied with the monetary incentives. According to Nero X, musicians should not be afraid of being sidelined in the music industry and see nothing wrong with artists performing on political stages to earn a living. His statement comes at a time when several musicians are frequently lambasted for performing on political campaign platforms. Speaking in an interview with GNA Entertainment, Nero X, who has endorsed former President John Dramani Mahama's re-election bid, asserted that musicians had a right to association and that their decision should not affect their careers.  'Yes, I would encourage artists to perform on political campaign platforms, the reason being that it is their job as musicians to perform to put food on their table. So therefore, once it is well negotiated and they are satisfied with the amount, they should go ahead with the job just like any ot her job does when it involves well-paid cash.  'Everyone has the right to association, so I don't understand why some people blacklist artists who appear on political platforms, especially when they don't come on their side,' he said. Nero X added that it was about time people accepted the choices of others and did not become too emotional, especially when it came to political affiliations.  Nero X is currently promoting an official campaign song for the NDC titled 'Mahama For 2024' ahead of the December 2024 elections.  Source: Ghana News Agency
