Ukraine has announced the opening of an embassy in Cameroon to reinforce its bilateral cooperation with the Central African country in the agriculture, higher education and project development sectors. The announcement was made by Yurii Pyvovarov, Ukrainian Ambassador to Senegal and special envoy of Ukraine's external relations Minister during an audience granted him by the Minister Delegate at the ministry of external relations in charge of the relations with the Commonwealth. 'I am here to begin a new page in our bilateral relations. One of the objectives of my visit to Cameroon is to announce the opening of a Ukrainian embassy in Cameroon and precisely in Yaoundé in the months ahead with a powerful economic mission, which will orchestrate our relations in the agriculture sector,' declared Yurii Pyvovarov. Other sectors attracting the European Union country in Cameroon are the higher education and project development sectors such as the construction of hydroelectric dams and road infrastructure. Worthy of note is the fact that both countries already had solid commercial ties which saw Ukraine supply Cameroon with 176,700 tons of goods worth FCFA 102,9 billion in 2021. On the other hand, Cameroon exported wood products to Ukraine. According to figures from a report from the Ministry of external relations on Cameroon's external trade with Russia and Ukraine, Cameroon exported goods worth FCFA 47.7 million to Ukraine in 2020. The new diplomatic headquarters in Yaoundé will therefore be another means to reinforce relations between the two countries which were crippled by the tensions between Russia and Ukraine in February 2022. The tensions wiped Ukraine from the list of top ten suppliers in Cameroon according to Cameroon's 2022 external trade report. Source: Cameroon News Agency
